The European Commission has published its new study on ERTMS® trackside deployment and cost drivers.

On 24 August 2026, the European Commission published its latest report on ERTMS Trackside Deployment – Analysis of Cost Drivers.

The report provides an analysis of the key factors influencing the costs of ERTMS® trackside deployment. Its assessment comes after a general data collection on the costs of trackside deployment and the plans of stakeholders regarding trackside deployment.

This study follows the analysis of on-board deployment costs carried out in 2025 and was, once again, conducted by the ERTMS Deployment Management Team (DMT).

Understanding the main cost drivers is essential to support the efficient and timely deployment of ERTMS® across Europe and to identify where further efforts can help reduce implementation barriers.
